A hickey is a bruise that results from kissing. That is why itβs also colloquially called a love bite or a kiss mark. A hickey forms from sucking the skin on a concentrated area, causing the breaking of capillaries, leaving behind a purple or red skin mark. These can often be quite embarrassing, especially if there is a family gathering or business meeting the next day. In fact, a hickey can last a week sometimes, though it does not leave a permanent mark (so if it is your first time, breathe a sigh of relief and high-five buddy). While it can be covered up with strategic clothing or makeup, there are also remedies to get rid of a hickey fast.
Apply Mint or Peppermint Solution
Essentially, what you need is anything that can improve blood circulation, because a hickey is a buildup of blood in an area. Mint or peppermint oil would be ideal, but mint based toothpaste could serve as an alternative. Apply it gently to the hickey until the skin begins to sting a little, and then clean it off with a damp towel. You may repeat this trick a few times, but be careful not to irritate the skin around the hickey.
Ice it
This technique is most effective when applied soon after receiving a hickey. You could wrap a few ice cubes in a paper towel and gently apply it to the affected area. What it does is reduce the flow of blood to the spot and prevents the hickey from becoming too large. Donβt apply ice directly to the affected area. Always use an ice pack or a paper towel.
Warm it down
This is an effective morning-after solution, when the hickey has been firmly implanted. In fact, use this technique if at least 24 hours have passed and the hickey has become semi-permanent. Use a hot and damp towel or a small hot water bottle, and gently apply it to the area for intervals of 20 minutes. This make the blood flow smooth from the area and reduce the coagulation. It is important you donβt use this technique soon after receiving the hickey, as at that time you donβt want increased blood flow to the concentrated region. That will only make the hickey larger.
Rub Alcohol
Alcohol can serve as a disinfectant and has soothing properties that can help you get rid of your love bite. You should dip a cotton ball in an alcohol based solution and gently apply it to the affected area a few hours after receiving the hickey.
Use Aloe Vera or Banana Peel
These are natural moisturizers that have cooling properties and can reduce the clotting of blood in the applied area.
Massage it
The intuition remains the same. Lightly rubbing the affected areas with your fingers can improve the circulation of blood around the hickey and prevent clotting of blood.
Vitamin Solution
Vitamin C and Vitamin K are natural nutrients that help with bruises. Oranges are a good source of Vitamin C where are spinach and fish are rich in Vitamin K. Alternatives to these foods include vitamin supplements and lotions with a rich Vitamin K base.
